Who are you?

The founder of CENTA is Dave Russell. He has been performing juggling and magic at birthday parties since 1990. He spent 14 years as a full time firefighter before moving to Adelaide to begin working on this Association.

Volkan Demir is our Operations Manager and go to genius for all things IT and tricky. He is a Sociologist and has a PHD in Marine Science.

Libby Day is our Policy Advocacy Advisor and has worked for international companes in this field.

Muge Demir is our Compliance and Finance Advisor and has extensive experience.

What is CENTA?

Centa is an Australia wide, not for profit association formed to protect our children by assisting Australia’s entertainers become compliant with the new Principles of Child Safe Organisations. We are a one stop shop for info, advice, and links to eveything required to work in the Kid’s Entertainment industry.

We aim to be the point of contact for Government when they are considering legislation or policies that concern our industry.

What’s in it for me?

As a member you will be given a unique membership number that can be used to verify your compliance status.

You will be able to use our policy and procedures templates to comply with the latest regulations.

You will be reminded of any renewals of insurance policies or work with children checks as they are becoming due.

You will have access to info and updates on changes relevant to our work.

Discounts on equipment, accounting, legal services and insurance are being negotiated.

You can use our Logo and your Unique member number on your advertising, website and stationary.

By being a member you will be joining a family of kid’s entertainers who take the protection and welfare of kids seriously and who have made a public commitment to upholding a professional Code of Conduct. This will be what the public are coming to expect from our industry.

What are these changes you keep talking about?

The changes are basically  a “tightening up” of the requirements to work with children. This has come from recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The National Principles of Child Safe Organisations require anyone who works with kids, including Entertainers, to have a Child Safe Organisations Policy, a Complaints Handling policy and a code of Conduct. These measures will increase the level of accountability of the industry and provide guidance when there is a problem. We have developed the required policy templates for our members to use.

How much does membership cost?

$99 inc GST p/a. The membership fee can be claimed as a tax refund.

If you join before the 31st of December 2019, the first year’s membership will be free.

What does my membership fee get used for?

We are a not for profit association, so all funds from membership fees, grants, donations and sponsorship goes toward running the association, organising workshops, designing E-Learning courses, meetings and helping our members business development.

Can anyone become a member of CENTA?

CENTA is established for Children’s Entertainers and related institutions for Children’s Entertainement sector. As an individual you are very welcome to be a member of CENTA. We can only approve membership to applicants who are able to provide a valid work with children check (or equivalent depending on your State), $20,000,000 or higher Public Liability insurance, and who understand and agree to our Terms and Conditions, Code of Conduct, policies and procedures. You will also need to provide a recent photo for your profile.

When will my membership expire?

Your CENTA membership is for a year, but being an active member is related to your WWC, Insurance and Compliance end dates.

We are not a legal body but we have strong connections from related government bodies and legal services. We can help you to find the right way and bodies for your need about legal issues.
